The Excelsior Scholarship lets New York residents attend a SUNY or CUNY college tuition-free if their adjusted combined household income is $125,000 or less. It is a last-dollar award: federal and state grants such as Pell and TAP are applied first, and Excelsior covers any tuition that remains. Recipients must enroll full-time and complete at least 30 credits a year toward their degree, and after graduating must live and work in New York State for as many years as they received the scholarship, or the award converts to a no-interest loan.
Complete the FAFSA (or DREAM Act application) and the TAP application, then apply for the Excelsior Scholarship online by August 31, 2026, for the 2026-27 academic term.
